Somewhere...
Sometime... The King is ill...
Elvis
lies comatose in his hospital bed. As he drifts into consciousness,
a vision of Santa appears before him. Elvis seizes the opportunity to
debate the philosophical problems in his life - why people copy him,
imitate him, die for him, even kill for him. But he doesn't want to
be worshipped, only the Lord and his son Jesus should be worshipped.
Santa persuades him that he has to be dead to be perfect, and soothes
Elvis into oblivion. But is it really Santa?
This
short film was totally studio-based. As always, Karl devised a beautifully-written
parable, that brings together totally disparate elements into a
surreal whole. I adore this film, and I was really chuffed to be able
to work on it. Thirteen years on, it still makes me laugh - and
shiver. There was also a great sense of cameraderie within the team,
and lots of fun to be had.
